Alpaca fibre

Twenty years ago, Ian and Angela settled amongst the rolling green pastures in country Victoria, Australia; raising their young family and tending to their beloved alpacas, quickly becoming one of Australia’s leading alpaca breeders.  Video - Our Alpaca Farm

What was once considered an unattainable luxury; a fleece only those of status could enjoy due to its exclusivity and costly price, is now more accessible than ever thanks to Scotch Group’s commitment to providing premium alpaca fibre products to the wider market, allowing all to enjoy the opulence of alpaca fibre.

Benefits of Alpaca fibre

In addition, alpaca fibre has an amazing array of scientifically proven health benefits such as:

  • Antimicrobial and antifungal
  • Dust-mite resistant
  • Hypo-allergenic and lanolin-free
  • Thermoregulatory properties – a natural insulator keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer
  • Protection from the sun’s ultraviolet radiation
  • Moisture wicking properties
  • Naturally flame resistant; more so than other available plant-based or synthetic fibres
  • Natural, eco-friendly and 100% sustainable

Is uniformity of Alpaca fiber impossible?

Alpaca fiber is sought after by Giorgio Armani, Loro Piana, Edun, etc. Its “next-to-skin” comfort, thermal insulation, fiber strength, water absorption, wear / wrinkle / stretch resistant, and exclusivity are well-known. They are also used in luxury Donna / Duvet ( www.theuneke.com ), carpet, sock, blanket, gloves, etc.

Scotch Group provide Alpaca fiber with uniformity in micron, length, colours, cleanliness(low VM and stain), non-offensive smell, minimum guard hair / overtight ringlets, etc. This aligned with processors parameters to reduce breakage, wastage, stoppages, cost and time. While increase yarn quality, yield, yarn / fabric quality, dyeing performance, visual and handle attributes and appeal to discerning clients.

How we did that?

By implementing a system plus continuous improvement via training and adhering to best Code of Practice. Not only that, we applied multiple layers of testing, including by AWTA(Australian Wool Testing Authority).

We work with our stakeholders, where profit can be ploughed back to expand the industry through a transparent platform called Scotch Method. We adhere to the highest Animal Welfare standard.  Cruelty free!
